It’s too hot for anyone to go outside anymore. Definitely not in the direct sunlight. The sun will kill you in less than an hour. You can get a melanoma in minutes.

As society begins to collapse, dark-colored people start disappearing. White vans come out of the night, and men in white suits go into the houses and bring out limp bodies. They say they these are just welfare checks. Everybody’s suffering from the heat.

They’re harvesting the melanin from Black people’s skins.

They take Kiki’s neighbors. They take her friends. Then they take her parents. Now she’s alone.

But White people and the sun aren’t her only enemies. The zika virus has mutated to cause microcephaly in adults as well. At night, the streets are overrun by zombie-like creatures with shrunken heads.

And then there’s the gangs of survivors. Violence is the only common language. And loners don’t last long. Luckily for Kiki, her parents taught her how to take care of herself. Can she survive long enough to find out what really happened to them?
