The Bandaged (The Empyrean Saga Book Two) by Steve Stred

Dr Albert Eldridge built a spaceship, a refuge from an Earth that was quickly becoming uninhabitable, and saved humanity. Now it’s time to kill him.

Floods, drought, wildfires, famine, overpopulation, rising sea levels: people don’t make plans until it’s too late. But Eldridge did. He built a space station the could orbit Earth until the climate stabilized.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough room for everyone.

And so, when the time came for the ship to depart, many people had to stay behind. They were called Inhabitors, people who would help make the planet livable again. They were called heroes. They felt like sacrifices.

Of course, Eldridge is a genius. Who else could have designed such an amazing vessel? But as time goes by, it becomes apparent that Eldridge doesn’t just want to save humanity, he wants immortality. And he’s willing to do almost anything to get it.

You make an enemy when you betray someone, and you make a lot of enemies when you betray the whole world. Now, the people Eldridge abandoned want revenge.

The Bandaged is an exciting sequel to The Future in the Sky, where salvation is grim and getting grimmer.
