Lord knows, he has killed a lot of them: mercenaries, Enforcers, even an Overseer. Hector is good at killing, and he doesn’t mind being the bad guy. But something’s wrong.

Maybe it’s because it’s getting hotter and no one can live above-ground anymore. Maybe it’s because the shuttles haven’t been heard from in five years and people are starting to wonder how they’ll ever get off the planet. Maybe it’s because the arks are getting farther away, deeper into space, and they’re the only chance left for the people still on Earth. Maybe it’s because people are trying to get out of Wonderland, no matter that the only place to go is the Buried City, where even a dead body is valuable for the organs, the skin, the teeth, the hair, and other things, too. Maybe it’s because people Hector has hurt keep telling him secrets before they die. Maybe it’s because none of them will tell him what he needs to know.

Now they’ve got him, but they aren’t going to end him. They say it isn’t personal, but Hector knows the killing is always personal.

Wasteland / Wonderland Part 1 is a brutal opening to a world that doesn’t seem like it will get any less savage. But it sure is entertaining.
